Hey, families! If your child is an animal lover, a sensory seeker, or needs a break from screen time this summer, check out this hidden gem right in Bridgewater: The Easterseals Massachusetts Equestrian Center. Our amazing lineup of equine-assisted programs for kids of all ages and abilities is so much more than just a pony ride.
This summer, we are offering Pony Playgroups on Sundays and Mondays, specially designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged animal enthusiasts. These hands-on sessions introduce little ones to grooming, tacking, and riding in a playful, low-pressure environment that builds motor skills, confidence, and social connection. Watching your child lead a pony with a new friend is pure magic.

Our Equine Enrichment Weeks are where the real fun (and growth!) happens. Each morning includes obstacle courses, riding games, animal care, and even crafts. These activities are thoughtfully designed to support emotional regulation, executive functioning, and sensory integration. Whether it is guiding a goat through a red-light, green-light game or braiding a horse’s mane, kids and adolescents are constantly learning through movement, structure, and connection with animals.
Older or more experienced riders can participate in the Intermediate-Advanced track, which includes synchronized riding, groundwork communication, clicker training, and even training opportunities. It is empowering, building self-awareness and body control in a way that traditional sports practice might overlook.
Not to mention, horseback riding itself offers a ton of benefits:
Stamina, coordination, and strength
Cognitive planning and problem-solving
Confidence and independence
Emotional bonding and self-regulation
For those seeking ongoing horseback riding opportunities, ESMA Equestrian Center also offers weekly riding lessons for kids, teens, and adults at all skill levels. Private lessons are available six days a week in 8-week packages, led by compassionate instructors and friendly, well-trained horses.
